Reading is about understanding the written text. It is a complex cognitive process which includes both the perception and thought. Reading consists of two related processes i.e word recognition and comprehension.
WORD RECOGNITION
Word recognition refers to the process of perceiving how written symbols corresponds with one`s spoken language.
READING COMPREHENSION
Comprehension refers to the process of making a sense of a word, sentence and connected text. Readers typically make use of background knowledge, vocabulary, grammatical knowledge, experience with the text and other strategies to help them understand written text.
